About Us
The history of Wilfred Scruton Ltd.
We are a family run business which originated in 1896 as a foundry, casting plough shares and making horse ploughs etc, also incorporating a joiners shop - repairing cart wheels, making sheep troughs and tumbrils. We expanded into a farm machinery business as a sub-dealer for Massey Ferguson and Fordson tractors and Massey Harris combines.
In 1969 we were made main dealers for International Harvester - eventually becoming Case IH - selling tractors, combines and sprayers up to the end of 2003 and from January 2004 we were responsible for McCORMICK TRACTORS INTERNATIONAL up until March 2008 when the market need for a more professional and advanced tractor lead us to change to the ever popular VALTRA tractor franchise which is part of the large AGCO group.
In December 2000 we were made dealers for JCB selling skid steers, masted rough terrain forklifts, wheeled loaders, telescopic handlers and fastracs.
January 2002 we opened our second branch at Riccall which was a significant change at Scrutons, and is going from strength to strength.
Then in January 2006 we acquired the CHALLENGER dealership to supply most of East and North Yorkshire with the tracked tractors and chemical applicators/sprayers etc. Again this is part of the large AGCO group.
We are also dealers for:
• Amazone drills, power-harrows and sprayers
• Krone balers
• Kuhn power harrows, drills, ploughs, grass equipment
• Twose
• Spearhead hedgecutters, etc
• Opico / He-Va rollers, cultivation equipment, harrows, Grain Driers etc.
