The JCB partnership begins
Wilfred Scruton becomes an agricultural dealer for JCB, supplying telescopic handlers, Fastrac tractors, wheeled loaders, utility vehicles and more.

Riccall opens
A second depot opens between York and Selby, extending sales, parts and service support across North Yorkshire and beyond.

Wilfred Scruton Ltd is a long-established and family-run agricultural machinery dealership.
The business began in 1894 as a foundry, casting plough shares and fabricating horse ploughs etc. incorporating a joiner’s workshop repairing cart wheels, sheep troughs and tumbrils.
Of course, this was all back when farmers bought locally-manufactured implements from their local blacksmith. As the industry had evolved, so has the company; with our customers reading articles and visiting events worldwide to find the most appropriate machinery for their budget and requirements, the company has gradually grown into a dealership with local and international suppliers.
Our expansion began when we became a sub-dealer for Massey Ferguson, Fordson tractors and Massey Harris combines. Later, we became dealers for International Harvester – eventually becoming Case IH - selling tractors, combines and sprayers. We were then retailers for McCormick tractors until we gained the franchise for Valtra; a high quality Finnish tractor brand under the ownership of the AGCO Corporation. We currently sell Valtra and Fendt tractors, incorporating everything from the ‘small tractor’ end of the market right up to the large tracked machines.
Since December 2000, we have been dealers for British manufacturer J C Bamford Excavators Ltd (JCB) selling Agricultural machinery including Telescopic Handlers, Fastrac Tractors, Wheeled Loaders, Utility Vehicles and more. In 2013 we reached the milestone of having sold 1000 JCB machines! We consider this a great achievement and thank all of our JCB customers for their support.
In 2002 we opened our second depot at Riccall, between York and Selby. This venture has gone from strength to strength, with a strong team of staff and loyal customers all the way from Harrogate down to Doncaster and across to Leeds.
Although we have grown extensively in recent years we're still very much family-run, and our core values in the 5th generation are much the same: to serve our customers and support our employees to the very best of our ability.
